At No.47, we’re lucky enough to be in the most picturesque village on the West Coast of Scotland and it’s our proximity to the sea (20 feet!) that has inspired the beach hut theme for our Gift and Home Ware shop. We felt that vibrant and colourful Tobermory was the perfect backdrop for creating our very own little beach hut. And because a beach hut is simple, rustic and not too perfect or polished, we think it suits us well!

We spent the Summer of 2010 dreaming up the concept for No.47 then the Winter of 2010 converting what was the old butcher’s shop into our little beach hut. We did this at nights, at weekends and any another spare second we weren’t doing our “day jobs”. Cold, long and dark nights made the conversion a real labour of love. Our opening on the 14th of December was a happy day! We’re very pleased with the results. Rather than using traditional shop fittings we’ve used furniture you’d find in your home- console tables, wardrobes and bookcases. We hope we’ve created a bright and pleasant place to shop.

The idea behind No.47 is simple too- we wanted to find artisan designers whose products we were proud to stock. In most cases, when we need to re-order something, we pick up the phone and speak to the person who actually makes the product.
