Snakes and Ladders

The game of snakes and ladders originated in India as a game based on morality called Vaikuntapaali or Paramapanda (the ladder to salvation). The game made it’s way to Britain in the late 1800s as people travelled around the British Empire. It seems that the original Indian version dates as far back as the 16th Century! The ladders represented virtues such as generosity, faith and humility and the snakes represented vices such as anger, murder and theft.
Snakes and ladders has been enjoyed by children for many, many years. We hope that this version, based on a game dating from the 1920s, will bring hours of fun to your family.
